Yupo paper is a relatively new product that turns watercolor painting on its head. This synthetic paper is a non-porous plastic, which means that the paints slip and slide all over the surface and take forever to dry. You really don’t know what you’re painting until it has dried, during which time all sorts of things may have happened to it! For underwater scenes, this fluidity is a wonderful and mysterious thing. For everything else, it means plenty of unexpected surprises. In any case, working with Yupo paper and having to give up a sense of control, is a very liberating experience. |
